Eleven Things You Should Know About Deaf People
Просмотров 485 тыс.9 лет назад
When I attended the Summer Slam Poetry Camp at Gustavus Adolphus College last year, I walked into a group of 30 campers knowing absolutely nobody. After that first day, I was so overwhelmed by all the conversations going on around me that I couldn't understand, and frustrated with myself for not knowing how to effectively communicate the fact that I'm deaf. I would tell people, but they didn't ...

* I love deaf people ♥
Ephesians 5:28-33 Even so ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies.
I'm not legally deaf, but I struggle along with my hearing-aids. I can usually "hear" what people say, but sometimes I have issues with processing what I hear, and crowds can be overwhelming. Music that I used to enjoy is beginning to sound strange. When they talk, some people sound like they're mumbling; others sound like chirping! Crazy...! Things I like: People that get my attention before they begin speaking, so that I can watch their lips; for, while I can't lip-read, I can "hear better" when I watch the speakers lips! Eye contact is great! I also like it when people know how to project when they speak, and look at me when they speak. Things I dislike: People that think that they need to yell or bellow to communicate. People that begin to speak, and then turn to walk away while they're speaking. People that, when communication becomes challenged, say, "Oh, just forget it. Never mind..." People that think I'm pretending that I can't hear them... People that turn off the "Close Caption" on the lunchroom TV at work. No more sounds of nature. No, I'm not deaf; but one doesn't have to be to really lose out on one of life's more important senses. It's not something that a sane person wishes for. Cut them a little slack. Thanks!
Sorry speak
Sign language should definitely be required because you never know when you might need it legitimately. Btw Ren you are beautiful.
this is really well done... very impressive for amateur filmmaker
1:35 why is bro shaking so much... it's so noticeable
CALVIN??
This was eye opening. Thank you.
I’m HOH. I wear dual hearing aids. I sign but my wife and kids don’t since I can speak. They have known to face me when they speak or need me to know something. Sometimes it’s on us to let others know about our situation. Quite a while back I was stopped by the police. I waited for the officer to walk up. I kept both hands on the steering wheel to be seen. They cannot know I don’t hear well by looking at me. When the officer was at my window I told him I am hard of hearing. Loud areas, like a busy highway make it difficult at best to hear or understand. I told him to please face me and yelling doesn’t help. My drivers license has a symbol on the bottom left of an ear with a diagonal line across it. Police here are educated on these symbols. It is quite helpful.
We do not need fines - we paid enough in this life for being deaf. Give us a break and get lost lol
😊😊have had these hissing sounds on the both sides of my ears for about 4years now , I saw a lot of testimonies from friends here in RUclips about dr Ogbebor herbal centre RUclips channel that’s cures tinnitus I ordered the treatment from him and after 3weeks of using the treatment , I was cured and the ringings has stopped, I am so grateful to you guys for recommending me , thanks guys.
It's like this for us hard of hearing people, too, often times.
Does anybody know what the plastic thing in her ear is? And where she got it from?
Hearing aid, a doctor
Yo that officer was a good actor
Those poor hearing aids 😅
2:45 AHAHAH
At the start of the video, the woman is ordering coffee by writing. She is deaf and dumb. If she can speak, why not speak?
Because sometimes deaf accents are hard to understand. How about instead of you being the dumb one, you take a minute to learn.
3:13 that guy‘s tongue is redder than mine after I finish 8 cans of cherry vodka coolers
For the dumb people out there that are watching this video without knowing what *Deaf* means Deaf" usually refers to a hearing loss so severe that there is very little or no functional hearing. "Hard of hearing" refers to a hearing loss where there may be enough residual hearing that an auditory device, such as a hearing aid or FM system, provides adequate assistance to process speech
Hi
Thanks for this gutsy point of view. I can hear and I hate the loud and/or busy conversations that go on - ironically I talk too much and have to learn the art of 2 way conversation. I much prefer the respectful, quiet, patient, waiting-your-turn, my focus is on YOU conversation. I highly recommend the book "You're not listening" by journalist Kate Murphy. Listening is way more than the physical ability to hear - it is taking the time to learn about the person standing opposite you. I'm all for inclusivity and breaking down barriers. Thanks for your contribution.
....What a complete bitch. I am glad that it's hard for her to make friends, because they would all end up abused!
Is the guitar player deaf? If singing doesn't come out a reasonable volume, then obviously it should be redone...
enjoyed this up until the police segment. that part makes no sense, neither of them made any attempt to understand eachother. a policeman also wouldn't just fucking give up cause the driver isn't cooperating, that's when the driver gets arrested. she could have wrote something down, or tried doing sign language which even if the cop didn't understand, it would have certainly informed him of the situation even assuming she can't read lips, she'd have to be an idiot to not take out her license, that is just standard procedure when you've been pulled over.
🩸🩸🔪
Especially 6 and 7 definitely! But this is awesome!
My mom is almost deaf, but not just deaf, she literally does not listen, does not pay attention, does not care. For example today she said oh no you're paranoid. Later, I said see I told you I wasn't paranoid. She said who said who was paranoid. I said you did. She said I said who was paranoid? I said you said I was. Then when I said something else and she change the word to something else, I said never mind, I am leaving. And she brought up the "deaf card". Well played mom, let's just not talk to each other anymore!
I had a Deaf roommate and learned so much about the Deaf community.
Why wouldn't you carry a sign in your car that says your deaf
Muting the audio really puts into perspective what its like to be deaf.
Are you able to speak?
Bro how the deaf people be seeing tho
What 💀
A day in the life of a very attractive deaf person that hangs around a lot of people that can use American Sign Language lol I think this is a university or something
This video was incredibly helpful thank you, Ren! I will make appropriate accommodations for my future students who are deaf and hard of hearing! (:
Great video! However, if the police is trying to pull someone over who us deaf they legally have to wait until an interpreter arrives.
🤣🤣🤣
Coming back to this video when all too well 10 minutes version came out is something else. This was the first time that I ever heard and saw this song.
I really hope you'll consider doing a version of Taylor's 10 minute version of this song. Hope you are well.
What sign did you use for masterpiece?
4:03 Did he… did he just peace out after telling her he was gonna give her a ticket?
